Educate Maine releases latest policy brief

November 06, 2019
Educate Maine and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce announce the most recent report in our ongoing policy brief series.

This report examines important education data related to diverse student populations and identifies four broad strategies and 14 specific actions that schools and communities can take to support learners from diverse backgrounds. Strategies outlined in detail in the policy brief include:
  • Ensuring school practices and policies support all students;
  • Providing ongoing, relevant professional development for educators and school administrators;
  • Engaging parents and communities; and
  • Recruiting and retaining diverse educators and school staff.
Effectively supporting and welcoming diverse students will help attract and retain young families in Maine, grow Maine's workforce, and benefit Maine's economy and employers. This is a crucial component of achieving the MaineSpark goal: by 2025, 60% of Mainers will hold education and workforce credentials that position Maine and its families for success.

The policy brief series is brought to you through a partnership between Educate Maine and the Maine State Chamber of Commerce, and through the generous support of the John T. Gorman and Nellie Mae Education Foundations. You can read the full report now on our website.
