Register Now for Girls Who Code Camps

May 09, 2025

The Girls Who Code Camps--free summer camps for students grades 6-12 to explore coding, leadership, and real-world tech careers—are now open for registration. These exciting opportunities are open to all students across Maine, including those in rural and underserved areas.
This summer Educate Maine is pleased to add two overnight camps to the calendar!

As a community partner of the national Girls Who Code nonprofit, Educate Maine has adapted the club model into a welcoming, hands-on summer camp experience. The goal: help close the gender gap in tech—because just 27 percent of computing jobs are held by women, and far fewer by women of color.

Supporting partners like HighByte, an industrial software company in Portland, make the camps possible.
"At HighByte, supporting Girls Who Code is more than a sponsorship, it’s personal," said Torey Penrod-Cambra, Chief Communications Officer at HighByte. "We’ve seen firsthand how early access to STEM education can shape the course of a young person’s future. That’s why our team is deeply committed to helping expand this program across Maine. It’s about investing in the next generation of innovators and building a tech community that reflects true creativity and diversity. Girls Who Code offers a powerful opportunity for students to build lifelong technical skills, gain confidence, and find a sense of belonging and we’re proud to play a role in making that possible.”

Camps include coding projects, team challenges, career exploration, and field trips to local tech employers like WEX. Students gain exposure to Maine’s growing tech economy—and the confidence to see themselves in it.
In 2024, over 85 students participated. In 2025, Educate Maine hopes to reach 100+ youth across the state.
