Milestone Move by Brunswick Apprentice

May 10, 2024 · Pre-Apprentice Gets Full-Time Offer from Employer

BRUNSWICK, Maine, May 10 _ A high school senior made a big career move this week, with plans to cap his successful education program in auto tech with a sought-after apprenticeship.

Just in time for National Youth Apprenticeship Week, Ethan Pinette signed an agreement with Goodwin Chevrolet and Mazda of Brunswick to work with the auto dealer as a registered apprentice. He is the first local certified automotive pre-apprentice to transition directly into a full-time, registered apprenticeship.

“Ethan has turned big goals and solid work experience nto achievement,” said Kate Howell, director of workforce partnerships for Educate Maine, which helps manage apprentice, pre-apprentice and internship programs statewide. “Successes like his are a positive sign for Maine’s future workforce.”

Pinette, 18, attends Region 10 Technical High School, and since this winter has worked part-time at Goodwin as part of his pre-apprenticeship program. His dedication, hard work and enthusiasm made him a natural choice to continue in a more advanced apprenticeship, Goodwin leaders said.

A signing ceremony today culminated with Goodwin’s official offer, which Pinette signed on the dotted line. He graduates in June with his RSD10 class and will start work right away.

Educate Maine is a business-led nonprofit developing Maine’s workforce through supporting educators, employers, and learners.
